What is improv?

Improv (improvisation) is a form of comedy and/or theatre that’s made up on the spot. Players (performers) take to the stage to entertain audiences with unplanned, unscripted, spontaneous fun! The plot, characters and dialogue are all made up in the moment – often inspired by a suggestion from the audience – so every single show is new, unique and never to be seen again! Whether it’s shortform games, Like on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, plays, musicals, or the array of incredible formats in-between, improv is creative, spontaneous and, most importantly, entertaining!

Come along to the festival to check out the great selection of improv shows we have lined up, or try improv for yourself! We will also be running improv workshops at the festival for both beginners and those who want to hone their skills.

In the meantime, there are so many great beginners’ classes available across the city. Here are just a few suggestions to get you started…
